Forty-five sparrows hum you a tune
This fowl form of choir
will sing through next June
And head up north when summer comes ‘round
Join with the sparrows,
Fly far from the South.

As the air grows warm, sun darkening skin
I’ll wait for the sparrows,
when you fly back again
Fifty-Five minnows are swimming upstream
They press on for you, dreaming fish dreams
As they battle fierce current
and brave larger breeds
Make waves, lovely darling. Follow up stream!

I’ll wade in the water with pant leggings rolled
My feet growing wrinkled from the river so cold
Sixty-five gentlemen cutting down trees
Evicting your sparrows and damming your streams
So suit up for progress and build tall a home
Applauded by creatures who’ve seen what we’ve done
But our woods have grown bare now,
no more sparrows sing
Our progress condemning the minnows upstream
Let’s burn down our palace and plant cedars tall
To welcome back sparrows and minnows so small
